The Socialist International rejects the actions of the Public Ministry of Guatemala which proposes the annulment of the electoral process that led to the presidential election win after a second electoral round on August 20, 2023, for Bernardo Arévalo.

The Guatemalan people have already expressed themselves freely and democratically at the ballot box. From the Socialist International, we call for the respect of the electoral result by all institutions in Guatemala. We want to show our support for the Guatemalan people and trust that Bernardo Arévalo can take office on January 14th.
